The legacy tree project

The Legacy Tree Project is a workshop program that has been successfully delivered to a variety of schools, organisations, and events in Ireland. Through this two-day workshop, students are introduced to the world of art and creativity, learning how to create their own tree sculptures and ultimately collaborating to install a larger tree project in their school as a lasting legacy.

On the first day, students receive an introduction to the artist and their practice, followed by a demonstration of tree sculpture creation. They are then guided step-by-step through the process of making their own tree project to take home. The second day allows students to utilize the skills learned on the first day to work together on the larger collaborative project, which may be completed in the artist's studio if travel is possible. All necessary tools, materials, and personal protective equipment are provided.

Not only is the School Legacy Project a fun and engaging activity for students, it also has positive effects on their mental wellbeing. Creativity and artistic expression have been shown to improve mental health by reducing stress and anxiety, increasing self-esteem and self-confidence, and promoting relaxation and mindfulness. By participating in this workshop, students have the opportunity to explore their creativity and benefit from the positive effects of a creative practice on their mental health.
